A seminar on ‘Fire Safety in High-Rise Buildings’ was held on 13 February at the Conference Hall, Parade Ground, Sector 17, Chandigarh, bringing together architects, engineers and fire safety professionals from across the country.

The event was organised by the Fire Awareness and Safety Association, with support from Minds Media and Management Private Limited, and included a Fire Safety Leadership Award ceremony.

Addressing the gathering, former MP and Additional Solicitor General of India Satya Pal Jain said that with rapid urban development and the rising number of high-rise buildings, prioritising fire safety has become essential. He stressed that drafting regulations alone is insufficient without strict implementation and regular inspections to ensure compliance.

Keynote speaker Prof Architect Manujit Khurana of Indo Global College of Architecture highlighted modern fire safety provisions in high-rise structures, including emergency exit systems, fire-resistant construction materials and adherence to technical standards.

Participants emphasised the need for stronger enforcement, awareness and professional collaboration to enhance fire preparedness and safeguard residents in increasingly vertical urban environments.
