Reacton Fire Suppression Ltd has been awarded a prestigious King’s Award for Enterprise in the Innovation category, becoming one of just 52 organisations across the UK to receive the honour in 2026.

The King’s Awards for Enterprise are regarded as the highest official UK awards for British businesses, with this year marking 60 years of recognising excellence in enterprise and innovation.

As part of the celebrations, Reacton CEO Sam Malins will attend a ceremony at St James’s Palace, where he will meet King Charles III.

The award recognises Reacton’s British-designed fire suppression systems, which protect billions of pounds’ worth of assets worldwide.

The systems combine advanced fire detection and suppression technology to automatically extinguish fires at source.

At the centre of the innovation is a proprietary pneumatic detection tube filled with nitrogen.

When exposed to heat or flames, the tube ruptures and immediately activates the release of an extinguishing agent without relying on external power.

The power-independent capability is considered a major development in fire safety, particularly in high-risk environments where electrical systems may fail. Reacton’s systems can also integrate electronic linear detection technology, allowing them to be used across applications ranging from heavy machinery and bus engines to electrical control panels and CNC equipment.

The King’s Awards also highlighted the company’s dual-agent suppression technology, which combines dry powder for rapid flame suppression with wet chemical agents to cool surfaces and prevent re-ignition. According to the company, this approach delivers faster and more effective fire suppression than traditional single-agent systems.

For sensitive environments, Reacton also offers clean-agent systems using fluorinated ketones discharged as gas, enabling fires to be extinguished without leaving residue and making them suitable for occupied spaces or equipment-heavy environments.

Another key innovation is the company’s ‘one valve fits all’ design approach. The same core valve technology can be used to protect equipment ranging from small electrical cabinets to 400-tonne mining machines, with only cylinder size and agent volume varying. The company says this reduces installation complexity while improving reliability.

Commenting on the award, Malins said: “This recognition reflects the dedication and expertise of our entire team. We’ve always believed that even in the face of challenges, there is a solution – you just have to go and find it. This award is proof of that mindset in action.”
